Sonde

Sondes are small, lightweight and compact balloon borne instruments, developed for measuring the vertical distribution of atmospheric ozone, aerosols and water vapor in situ up to an altitude of about 30-35 km. During normal flight operation, sondes are coupled to a standard meteorological radio-sondes for transmission of the measured quantity plus additional meteorological parameters (pressure, temperature, wind direction and wind speed) to the ground during the ascent. NDACC includes ozonesonde, water vapor data from Frostpoint Hygrometers, and aerosol data from dustsondes, and backscatter sondes.
