Only a few days after Super-Typhoon Hagibis hit Japan quite hard (Figs. 1, 2), the 2019 NDACC Steering Committee Meeting took place in Tsukuba (approximately one hour northeast of Tokyo) from Tuesday afternoon, October 15, until Friday, October 19. Because of the typhoon, all flights to Japan were cancelled for at least one day. As a result, the meeting was postponed for one and a half days, and the agenda was modified significantly to accommodate the delay.
GAIA-CLIM (Gap Analysis for Integrated Atmospheric ECV Climate Monitoring) is a now completed EU H2020 Copernicus pioneering project (2015 – 2018). It had the aim to identify gaps and establish sound methods to characterize satellite-based observations using ground-based network measurements (http://www.gaia-clim.eu/). The backbone of the Copernicus Earth Observation programme is the acquisition of high-quality observational datasets from satellites.
The SouthTRAC aircraft campaign operates the German High Altitude and Long Range Research Aircraft HALO to investigate transport, composition and dynamics of the Southern Hemisphere upper troposphere and lower stratosphere (UTLS). Intensive operation periods take place in September and November 2019 out of Rio Grande, Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. Research topics include the influence of biomass burning on the UTLS, outflow from the Antarctic ozone hole and the life cycle of gravity waves.

New output for 2018 is available for all stations. All file types from 1985-2017 have been revised – either corrected or improved; see details below. The new files have ‘MR2V2’ in the name to distinguish them as version 2 (V2) files that were created from a simulation integrated with MERRA2. All files can be downloaded via anonymous ftp from ModelDataLink. The files are generated from a GMI chemistry transport model (CTM) simulation integrated with MERRA2 reanalysis meteorology.
